Take a Step Back

Colossians 2:8, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

Different people have different views when it comes to education, as I have previously as well. Although recently I have been taking a step back and re-evaluating the concept of education in the world today. As I read through history and learn about education among society in different cultures I keep coming back to see what the Bible says. God was specific when He taught us that we should educate our children with His Word.

The above verse from Colossians admonishes us to 'beware' of men spoiling us through 'philosophy and vain deceit'. The term 'spoiling' is not in reference to being given more than we have need of, as we would think of a child who gets everything his heart desires. The word spoil is in regards to diminishing, much like a spoiling tomato.

He cautions us not to follow the 'traditions of men', or after the 'rudiments of this world'. We could go into depth about education and God's Word yet I won't be going any deeper than this for today. What I am concerned about is the direction our public schools are going with America's children.

I would like to admonish all parents who have their children in a public school to take a closer look at what is developing in the mindset of the nations schools. Take a step back and think about how we fight a spiritual battle. The enemy is not going to aim for grown, mature adults who already have their minds made up about the Lord; He will aim for our weakest position, our children. Just as Adolf Hitler was aiming to control the minds of his nations children, to raise them up in his philosophies, so the enemy still seeks to destroy the minds of the next generation.

I try to look at life from that spiritual point of view as well as logically. I think about how an enemy works their strategies in a war, a battle, and think about how our very own enemy works the same way. The ol' devil knows he has but a short time and he's not about to back away from his plan.

Parents, take a closer look at our world today, let's not be blinded by the surface of this world, let's look at the root of the problems we see in our world today. The root of the problem is sin, sent from the enemy himself, he has a mission. His mission is to cripple Christians and destroy the image of God in the minds of the lost. If he can become successful in crippling Christians to not stand up for God's Word and teach about Salvation by grace through faith; and destroy the minds of the lost from ever wanting to seek God, then what is going to happen to our nation?
