Constitution Day Event

Welcome Back to School!

HISTORY™ Classroom welcomes teachers, students and administrators back to school. I hope you had a fun and relaxing summer. I am excited to let you know about some great new programs we have coming up this fall.

Each September 17th, schools pause to reflect on the importance of our founding documents on National Constitution Day. HISTORY is very pleased to be joining with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to present We The People: LIVE, a free webcast streamed online live from the Newseum in Washington, DC. This engaging 45- minute program will include narrative and readings about the history of the Constitution and its relevance today, with leaders from government and the media. Register online today!

Our Take a Veteran to School Day program returns in 2010. Through this program, schools nationwide have connected their students with our veterans from all walks of life to hear their stories and thank them for their service. Register online at our website where you'll also find a wealth of free curriculum materials and "How To" guides for getting started. All participating schools will receive 30 colorful wristbands (available while supplies last, so sign up soon!)

With the 150th Anniversary of the Civil War upon us in 2011, HISTORY is proud be leading the nationwide effort to commemorate this critical era. Look for a big announcement soon about our plans for the Civil War anniversary; teachers and students will be excited when they hear what we have in store! We will also be updating you on our Civil War related on-air programming, and sharing information about our plans with our partner organizations including the Library of Congress and the Civil War Preservation Trust.

Our commercial-free HISTORY classroom programming airs each Monday at 6am/5c. This fall look for a program called The Naturalized. This heartfelt documentary follows the stories of a diverse group of people as they go through the process of becoming U.S. citizens, including taking the American history and civics test required to achieve citizenship. Check out our Citizenship Quiz and see if you and your students could pass this test too!
